The peaceful SAY THEIR NAMES Vigil held in Truckee yesterday evening was a powerful show of courage and solidarity in our little mountain town denouncing systemic racism and violence. It allowed us a time to reflect on those killed by police. It allowed us to show our collective desire for change. To stand together and demand a better world. Black lives matter.
I was glad I brought my camera along last night - I had been on the fence, usually feeling uncomfortable in situations with emotional or political weight to them. But I thought it might be helpful to get some shots, and it turned out to be a very fulfilling experience. The camera serves as my voice and vehicle for expression, and enables me to be more confident in situations I normally wouldn’t be. It gives me purpose, and at this moment in history we need these stories being told. It was an honor filming and editing this video, and I hope to do more pieces like this in the future.
