When my good friend Tom Beckering aka PowBot reached out last winter about coming on as guests to their podcast Mind The Track, I was super excited and frankly unsure if we would even make for interesting guests. But as soon as we sat down and started chatting and the stories started flowing, I knew it would be an entertaining listen for anyone who’s ever followed along on one of Josh’s film segments or seen his POV shots on Instagram. We had a blast chatting about the trials and tribulations that go into skiing and filming in Nevada, so please give it a listen. Tom and Kurt have an awesome thing going with MTT, connecting to the mountain community in Tahoe/NV and telling their stories. We were honored to be a part of it, and hope to be back on the show next winter!

Winter 2023 is Underway... by Hazen Woolson

What a fortunate start to winter for California this year! One of the hardest parts about filming the ski / snowboard industries is that we rely so heavily on Mother Nature… there’s only so much faking you can do with bad snow conditions.

This December and January we in CA have been hit with storm after storm, giving Josh Daiek and I the conditions we need to start filming for Mountain State 2.0. We’ve been focusing on the story of the Caldor Fire and how it’s affected Josh living in Meyers CA and the larger mountain community in the west. The power of the fire and its near-miss of South Lake Tahoe combined with the blackened trees with white powder is providing a potent story and stunning visuals.

More storms on the way next week!

BUSY Winter! by Hazen Woolson

With two successful Mountain State trips in the bag, I was excited to get my hands on just a little bit of footage and see how things were looking! These are a few clips from last month’s trip to the East Humboldt Range in northern Nevada with athletes Josh Daiek and Trevor Semmons - gorgeous views, amazing skiing and lots of fun.

Morning Flight by Hazen Woolson

Once I’m out of bed I rarely regret getting up early, and this morning on the coast was no different. Morning fog was rolling in off the ocean and covering the flanks of Mt. Tamalpais, south swell was creating waves along the shore of Stinson Beach, and the birds were happy in the Bolinas Lagoon as I drained 2 batteries on my drone. Enjoy!
